Fernhill farm dates from the 17th Century when its natural pond became important to livestock and farmers and a settlement was built around the water source. The site is home to a neolithic flint mine, and has attracted human gatherings since prehistoric times.
We’re delighted to be celebrating Cloud Cuckoo Land within this beautiful and timeless environment, which was previously home to the Big Green Gathering and currently hosts Sunrise Off-Grid. Amidst it’s magical glades and old oaks, Fernhill is very much on the sustainable path.
“We are developing the farm into a self-sustaining unit with its own supply of homegrown resources food from our fields and gardens, water harvesting and recycling, wood and wool to keep us warm and we are ready, as the next step, for the sun to heat our water and the wind to provide our power.”
Today the working farm is 160 acres of species rich natural grasslands, where cattle, sheep and pigs are traditionally bred and reared. There are an abundance of walks through the fields and woodlands, seasonal harvesting from the orchard and gardens and wild ponds to explore.
